Studio Artist Classes at the Museum of Art - DeLand are designed to grow students' abilities technically and conceptually through a focused, four-week session of classes. Students will study elements and principles of art, in-depth techniques, and study a variety of artists to inspire their work. Each four-week session has its own theme and focus, with separate classes for kids and teens.
$75 for Museum Members | $85 for Future Members

KIDS' SESSION
Build, Shape, Imagine: Sculpture & Installation Art for Kids
Wednesdays, 3:15 - 4:30 p.m.
Ages 6 - 12
From colorful sculptures to imaginative installations, young artists will explore how to build, assemble, and create using a wide variety of fun materials — including cardboard, acrylic paint, wire, string, Mod Podge, plaster, clay, Styrofoam, found objects, and more! In this playful and hands-on class, students will experiment with shape, texture, and space while discovering how artists transform everyday materials into extraordinary works of art inspired by their own life experiences. Some of the highlighted artists of inspiration include Louise Nevelson, Do Ho Suh, Claes Oldenburg, and Tara Donovan.
TEEN SESSION
Beyond the Canvas: Exploring Sculpture and Installation Art
Wednesdays, 4:45 - 6 p.m.
Ages 12 & up
In this dynamic hands-on studio class for teens, students will explore mediums that extend beyond traditional painting, and will experiment with sculpture, assemblage, installation art, and mixed-media environments. Inspired by visionary contemporary artists such as Louise Nevelson, Do Ho Suh, and Louise Bourgeois, students will learn how to transform everyday materials into expressive, three-dimensional works of art. Working with materials like cardboard, wire, string, found objects, Styrofoam, plaster, PVC pipes, and fabric, students will explore texture, space, and form to tell personal stories and express abstract ideas.
